Your participatory budget with the Bpart platform

01-11-2025

With the Bpart participation platform, you focus on digital participation. Informing, involving or even letting citizens take part in decision-making? Thanks to a customisable platform, built to fit your needs and visual identity, you bring your participation projects to life online.

Give participation in your city a central digital place and launch your engagement projects on topics such as mobility, public space, culture or any theme where you want to involve your residents.

Demo: participatory budget

A participatory budget gives every resident the opportunity to actively help shape projects in their city. By submitting, supporting and voting for local initiatives, citizens directly contribute to improving their living environment.

Informing and engaging citizens in a participation process

31-10-2025

To inform and engage citizens, we use two tools by Tree company.

Inform: build a shared knowledge base

With Tell it, you can explain complex topics in a fun and visual way. This helps create a clear and shared understanding among citizens who want to take part. Once people are informed, you can move on to engaging them on the same topic. The two modules are designed to work seamlessly together.

Engage: collect input easily and show different opinions

With Discuss it, participants can share their input in a simple and accessible way—no login or registration required. The process starts with a multiple-choice question, followed by space to explain ideas or arguments. AI helps guide the discussion and checks for toxic language. After sharing their own input, participants can also see what others have said and “like” the ideas they agree with.

Demo: involving citizens in the multi-year plan

See how the municipality of Smartville informs and engages its citizens on key priorities within the multi-year plan. Participants selected one or more focus areas and received visual background information about each. Then, they could indicate which municipal actions mattered most to them and finally add their own ideas.

Accessibility

Accessibility Statement of the Bpart participation Platform

Bpart is committed to providing an accessible web platform.

What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility means that websites and applications are accessible and usable for everyone. Access to information and services is not always guaranteed for everyone. This includes individuals with visual impairments or blindness, older adults with reduced vision, as well as individuals with limited hand function or reading ability.

How does Bpart strive for accessibility?

We adhere to the current relevant accessibility standards in our ongoing efforts to maximize the accessibility and usability of our platforms for all users. These principles are applied when developing new features or improving existing modules.

Which guidelines do we follow?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) gather the standards applicable to accessibility requirements for individuals with disabilities. These guidelines are divided into three levels: A, AA, and AAA. Bpart follows the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines when developing platforms.

What can you do?

Enlarge text

If you find the font size on the site too small to read comfortably, you can easily enlarge it using your browser's built-in function.

Use a screen reader

A screen reader is a form of assistive technology that provides speech or braille output of text and image content.

Optimize your platform

If you are a user or administrator of a project or Bpart, be sure to check the information on "web accessibility in practice" from the Flemish government.

Exceptions

We strive to make our content accessible to everyone. However, in some cases, there may be inaccessible content on the platform, such as:

External tools

Bpart allows the integration of external tools and platforms, such as survey software. These third-party software may not be accessible.

Branding – custom CSS

The guidelines are applied to the Bpart platform. However, when used, third parties may add branding or custom CSS. Bpart cannot guarantee that these will be applied in an accessible manner by third parties.

Maps

Projects have the option to display their input in a map view, which may not be easily accessible. However, there is always an alternative list view available, which is accessible.

User-generated content

Users can upload their own content and documents to their Bpart project. Bpart cannot guarantee that users will adhere to all guidelines. It is possible that individual users or organizations may upload non-accessible PDF files, images, or other multimedia. These documents may not be fully accessible.

Assistive technology

Bugs with screen readers may occur with different combinations of browsers and screen readers.

Publication date

This accessibility statement was published on May 1, 2023.

Feedback

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our platforms. You can contact us at wcag@bpart.be. We will try to respond within 3 working days.
